Reading for Resilience

If you love books and want to make new friends, this group is for you! It’s open to young people aged 12–18.

The group meets online via MS Teams every two weeks on Wednesdays from 5–6pm.

Attendees choose the books they read with a focus around the themes of resilience, identity and emotional wellbeing. The group puts together 12 book shortlists and then votes to decide what of that list they will read next.

Group members then read them together as well as engaging in discussions about the narratives and characters, writing reviews to be shared with libraries to encourage other young people to read.

Books read so far include The Inheritance Games, Noughts & Crosses, Shatter Me, The Black Flamingo, One of Us Is Lying, and Hatchet.

The group is a great way to support your personal development, helping to understand your emotions and feelings better, learn coping strategies, and gain wellbeing support.
